Sto Maximum Inventory Slots
The inventory consists of 4 armor slots, 27 storage slots, 9 hotbar slots, and an off-hand slot. Items in the hotbar slots can be selected during play using the keyboard (keys 1 – 9) or mouse wheel and placed or wielded with the mouse buttons. Most items can stack up to a maximum of 64 in one slot.
This article is about the current version of Starship Catalogue. For the Atlas Rises version, see Starship Catalogue (Atlas). |
- Okay then could someone tell me what the maximum number of outfit slots you can have is? 2 by default, 1 for joining a fleet, 2 more for LTS. Then 2 for every 250 Zen. Wiki doesn't say but I'm curious to what this could be.
- You will be able to purchase the “12 Inventory Slots” option up to 6 times, instead of the previous limit of 3. This allows the purchase of up to 36 additional inventory slots than previously allowed. When added to the 18 free slots, you can now extend main inventory by 54 additional slots.
- The legit max inventory space is 72. An inventory of 42 spaces unlocks an achievement called 'Fully Loaded'. Each backpack SDU gives 3 additional spaces to the inventory. With more space you can have a larger collection of your weapons you would like to keep.
The Starship Catalogue is an index to discovered starships.

Summary[edit edit source]
The following is an index of various starships discovered by different players.
Remember that each starship is available in all class grades, the maximum inventory size depend of the design of a ship, so it is important to know which design is best suited to you when looking for a new starship.
The inventory slot range is given for each type - information on the tech slot ranges can be found on the regular Starship page.
Distribution[edit edit source]
NOTE: Information based on game releases prior to the release of the Living Ship class.
- Each system has 7 Shuttles
- Each Gek system has 7 Haulers, 3 Explorers and 3 Fighters
- Each Korvax system has 7 Explorers, 3 Fighters and 3 Haulers
- Each Vy'keen system has 7 Fighters, 3 Explorers and 3 Haulers
- Each ship can be found in A, B, C and S classes
- The design of a ship defines its inventory tier (Small, Medium or Large)
- Each star system might have 1 Exotic ship S class (Small)
- Each system has 3 Regular Freighters found in A, B, C and S class
- Each system has 1 Capital Freighter found in A, B, C and S class that will appear in a special event only.
- Regardless of specific archetype and visual model, ships spawning as S-class grade nearly always have largest class bonuses and inventory size in the game for their particular design. They're somewhat more likely to spawn in wealthier systems, and proportionally less likely in poorer systems.
Shuttle[edit edit source]
Ships in this class have balanced stats, with no significant class bonus compared to the other archetypes. These ships look typically blocky and small with a square-ish canopy, though some ships in this class do sometimes use a tube-like fuselage.
The Inventory range for Shuttles is 18-23 for small and 19-28 for medium. As stated previously, Shuttles do not have a large inventory tier, but are great for starter travelers due to their cheap cost and increased low-tier inventory space.
Fighter[edit edit source]
Ships in this class feature a damage potential class bonus. These ships are the mascot ships of No Man's Sky, and are also the primary starships of pirates across the galaxy. The Fighter Parts Catalogue contains a list of nine body types, 18 ancillary parts, and three varieties of thrusters.
The inventory ranges for Fighters are 15-19 for small, 20-29 for medium, and 30-38 for large.
Unique ships[edit edit source]
Prior to the Atlas Rises update, the game included three 'Unique' ships, which are all members of the Fighter class. These do not spawn in systems, as they are either pre-order bonus ships or the Rasamama starter ship:
A list of ships similar to the Rasamama S36 can be found on the Rasamama Collectors Club page.
In the Visions update, the starter ship is the Radiant Pillar BC1
Explorer[edit edit source]
Ships in this archetype feature a hyperdrive range class bonus. These ships are the most unusual looking out of all the other starships, with some appearing bug-like and slender, while others feature massive engine block additions. Imgur author Sylvester Spaceman has created an Explorer Parts Catalogue.[1]
Explorers share the same inventory ranges as Fighters, with 15-19 for small, 20-29 for medium, and 30-38 for large.
Hauler[edit edit source]
Ships in this class feature a shield absorb class bonus, and they also boast the highest possible inventory spaces. These ships are the largest out of all the other starships (other than freighters), and may or may not have wing features on them. Imgur author Sylvester Spaceman has created a Hauler Parts Catalogue.[2]
The inventory ranges for Haulers are 25-31 for small, 32-39 for medium, and 40-48 for large.
Exotic[edit edit source]
Although every ship model in the game could spawn as S-Class grade, there are some unique models referred to as 'Exotic' that only spawn as S-Class grade. If they spawn at all, they are limited to ONE (1) ship, per solar system.
The inventory ranges for Exotics are 15-20 for small. Exotic ships do not appear in the medium or large inventory tier, but they have very high class bonuses (damage, shield and hyperdrive range).
Living Ship[edit edit source]
Ships of this type are categorized by their 'Organic' looking architecture. Their release was seen during the Melody Of The Egg quest, being added first secretly in the Experimental Branch on 18/02/2020. These ships utilize Biotechnology to function, having separate shielding, pulse engine, weaponry etc, with organic names.
They have two types of inventory, Organ Chamber and Storage Sacs. The inventory is currently fixed at 22 slots for a Storage Sac, and 21 slots for an Organ Chamber.
Note: This type of ship can use black holes without requiring repairs.
Freighter[edit edit source]
Ships in this class are more expensive than other type of starships with similar size inventories, with prices ranging from 5 million to as high as 178 million units. They contain a decent amount of inventory spaces that hold twice the amount that starships can hold, and can be used as a mobile base including farming and other base-related functions.
The inventory ranges for Freighter are 15-19 for regular and 24-34 for capital. See the catalogue for more information about the sub-categories.
Frigate[edit edit source]
Frigates are larger than a single-user starship, but smaller than a freighter. They can usually be found surrounding an NPC freighter. A player can own up to 30 frigates once they command a freighter. Frigates can then be sent on expeditions to other star systems.

There are five types of frigates, each with their own specialty: Combat, Exploration, Industrial, Trade, and Support.

In order to improve your experience in Star Trek Online, we are bringing you some great news!
We will be increasing the number of main inventory slots for all characters by 18, and the number of character bank slots by 12. This is a free increase for all existing (and future) characters that will take effect when this week’s patch goes live.
Additionally, we will be increasing the number of times you can purchase the “12 Inventory Slots” and “12 Bank Slots” options from the Cryptic Store. This will also become available when this week’s patch goes live.
You will be able to purchase the “12 Inventory Slots” option up to 6 times, instead of the previous limit of 3. This allows the purchase of up to 36 additional inventory slots than previously allowed. When added to the 18 free slots, you can now extend main inventory by 54 additional slots.
You will be able to purchase the “12 Bank Slots” option up to 12 times, instead of the previous limit of 4. This allows the purchase of up to 96 additional bank slots than previously allowed. When added to the 12 free slots, you can now extend bank storage by 108 additional slots.
We hope this helps alleviate some of the storage issues many of our players have faced over the years, and will allow your Captains the space needed to fully stock your ship and crew for the adventures that await you throughout the STO galaxy.
You can expect to see the increased slots in your inventory and bank this Thursday, February 27th, 2014, after maintenance has completed. Enjoy!
