Sa Gambling Legislation
Gambling laws in South Africa are legislated in the National Gambling Act of 2004. According to this Act, which was amended in 2018, online gambling (or interactive gaming) and online casinos are illegal. While online gambling isn’t permitted within the borders of South Africa, South African players don’t have to worry. 'The government must act immediately to bring loot boxes within the remit of gambling legislation and regulation,' said a statement accompanying the report. Loot boxes have long been controversial. The National Gambling Board (NGB) has issued a warning to South Africans participating in online interactive gambling as this remains prohibited. Gambling: Gazette 4.12.2001 p5261 This legislation is affected by amending provisions that have not yet come into operation or taken effect. Only amendments that have commenced are incorporated.
